RPi 5 support

Postby HydroDiOxide » Mon Apr 29, 2024 1:38 pm

I'm looking for a new single board and was considering the Odroid C4, but since Archarm support for this one is not that good, I'm shifting my focus to RPi. With RPi 5 in good supply now, I thought it was the obvious choice, but I don't see it in the supported devices list. When I get a RPi 5, will all the packages be supported or is it better to get a RPi 4? Prices seem to be very similar, when looking at the 4GB version.

The Pi5 works very well with ALARM.

Thanks for the reply.

I got my RPi5 and am trying to create a ALARM sd-card per these instructions: https://kiljan.org/2023/11/24/arch-linux-arm-on-a-raspberry-pi-5-model-b

However, there seems to be an issue with the Pi Foundation kernel download. Can anyone point me to better/up to date instructions? Or is this the way to go?

Regards

Just use the instructions for RPi4 here. You linked some external guide.

I tried the RPi4 instructions using the AArch64 instructions, but that doesn't give me a bootable sd-card. It should for the RPi5?

Using the method in the link I posted does give me a bootable sd-card (I managed to find a working link for the kernel).

It worked for me. Just be sure to install linux-rpi or linux-rpi-16k kernel as there is not yet mainline support for rpi5b and the image ships with the incompatible kernel (linux-aarch64).

Would you mind providing the steps on how to do this?

They are outlined on the installation guide. What are you not understanding?

I was referring to this "just be sure to install linux-rpi or linux-rpi-16k kernel". The rest of the steps are clear to me.
